As far as I'm aware:
1. If you don't claim that a dreamcatcher (drawing, design, diy item, etc) is made by native american people and you don't profit from it, the Elders and representatives of the native american tribes/bands don't considerate it as appropiation. And I don't think Deukae nor DCC has ever claimed that.2. The name "dreamcatcher" isn't the real name of the item in any Native American language. So, using "dreamcatcher" for the name of a group, book, movie, etc, shouldn't be a problem if you don't use the myths of the item disrespectfully.3. Deukae/DCC usage of the item on their storylines was never meant to be disrespectful nor portrayed as evil.
- What you consider evil is based on a Christian belief that says that everything that's dark, creepy or it's used along European paganism and witchcraft elements (like the dreamcatchers were used in the MVs) must be evil and satanic, and that's a very ignorant point of view.My opinions:
1. It's totally valid to dislike, feel offended and/or think it's disrespectful to use the word "dreamcatcher" for things that aren't the item, as well as using the item if you aren't Native American, but I don't think a group of people online can speak for the Elders and the representatives of the native tribes/bands even if these groups of people are Native Americans. The same way that I can't speak for everyone in Andalucía when outsiders use our culture, I can only speak for myself, not for every Andalusian person.2. I do think that DCC should address the usage of the item for logos and such stuff, and also apologise to those who got offended or dissapointed these years.3. It's absurd to call the members racists for a decision that their company took, as well as calling the members "cultural appropiators".4. DCC stopped using the item on MVs and for logos, but what people I've seen want is for them to change the group's name (which will be seen as redebuting in the industry) and to edit every content that contains the old logos (which would take an insane amount of money and time, and they probably don't have the raw footage and photos from back then anymore). So, I don't think they can do any of that even if they wanted to.5. The way people approached the situation and tried to contact DCC (and Deukae) about this situation has always been very hostile, which has being understood as "hateful comments" by many people, including DCC, which is why I think they never addressed it nor apologised. You can be mad at them, but if your words come out with hostility and rudeness, DCC will take you as a hater and won't listen to you.6. Not every circle with things hanging are dreamcatchers. For example: a lot of people back then called the logo of the album of TTOL "a dreamcatcher" when that logo was inspired in the symbol of Yggdrasil, the tree of life from Norse mythology, and they added the tree's roots which connects the nine worlds in Norse mythlogy, and calling that logo "a dreamcatcher" is disrespectful towards Norse pagans (yes, Norse paganism is a thing and Norway has religions about those pagan traditions officialised).7.
